MG21 Governance Board email: mg21governanceboard@mgschools.net
Board meets 2nd Wed. of every month @ MG21
MG21 is what is called an “instrumentality charter school,” established as a public school under Wis. Stat. s. 118.40. A charter is a contract between a Board of Directors, or Governance Board, incorporated as a nonstock corporation, and an authorizing authority (in our case, the Monona Grove School District). At MG21, our school has a 7-9 person Governance Board, which is charged with defining the vision and mission of our school, oversight of the school finances and ensuring that our school’s curriculum and structure are aligned with that vision and mission. Our Governance Board meets monthly during the school year, and our meetings are on the second Wednesday of the month, from 4:30-6:00 PM at the school. If you have questions, comments or concerns or just want to learn more, you may email the governance board by clicking here. Current Governance Board members are listed below. A copy of MG21’s current charter may be seen here.

Vice President & Parent Rep: Elizabeth Wheeler
Elizabeth lives in Monona and has two amazing kiddos, who are both students at MG21. Born and raised in Wisconsin, Elizabeth is passionate about biking, adventuring, reading, and preserving our planet for future generations. Professionally, Elizabeth is an attorney with a background in a wide range of policy issues but with a focus on energy and environmental policy and currently works at a nonprofit organization called Clean Grid Alliance. Having attended an alternative middle and high school herself, Elizabeth is thrilled to have MG21 as an opportunity for her own children to walk their path within the Monona Grove School District. Elizabeth is the proud recipient of the 1991 Love of Learning award from Red Apple Elementary School. She is honored to serve as the parent representative on the MG21 governance board to support a similar love of learning for all students.
Treasurer: Sandy Homburg
Sandy worked for 13 years as an Electronic Coordinator, transitioned to a fitness instructor while raising her kids, and eventually became the Director of Yoga Teacher Training and Reiki Master. Most recently, she did the covid pivot and earned a Certificate in Digital Marketing from UW Madison. Growing up in a severely impoverished and different family in Monona, she understands from the student’s perspective, how obstacles and roadblocks can hinder a student. Raising three kids with varying learning abilities, Sandy also understands that every student has different needs, goals, and paths to follow. Her father, a single parent raising five kids, knew firsthand what it was like to be hungry and how hard it is to feed a family with no money, so he, along with his friends, went on to help start the Second Harvest Food Bank. He taught by example how to flip the script and how impactful it is to offer what you can so that others may have a better situation.
Secretary: Ryan Claringbole
Ryan is the director of the Monona Public Library. Previously, Ryan was a library consultant on the Public Library Development Team in the Division for Libraries & Technology at the Department of Public Instruction, serving the public libraries and regional library systems throughout the state. Ryan believes in the power of stories in individuals, both real and fictional, and looks forward to serving the students and staff of MG21. Ryan currently lives in Monona.
Parent Rep: Katie Moureau
Katie is a Cottage Grove parent of five boys, ages 4 to 16, and has spent her career and volunteer time advocating for inclusive, student-centered supports in education and healthcare. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Family and Health Studies from UW–Whitewater, and worked for 18 years as a Behavior Technician and Supervisor supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Her advocacy began with one of her kids, who has Prader-Willi Syndrome, and has expanded to include work at the local, state, and federal level. She is currently serving on the Wisconsin Rare Disease Board (as Advocacy Chair), the Monona Grove Education Foundation, and the MG21 Governance Board. She’s also a member of the Patients Rising Patient Senate and the Wisconsin Public Education Network. Katie is passionate about equity, accessibility, and student voice. She believes in learning environments that meet students where they are, and she’s committed to helping MG21 continue to thrive as a place where all learners feel seen, supported, and empowered.
