The Tools: 21st Century Skills

21st Century skills and the competencies and dispositions necessary for their acquisition, permeate our curriculum.

The overall goal is to tie the student’s path and education to their ability to master the 21st century skills of:

  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
  • Collaboration
  • Communication
  • Curiosity and Imagination
  • Commitment and Motivation

Our process:
The MG21 educational process is a three-fold process which can be differentiated and which conforms to the stages of adolescent, cognitive development.

  • A student’s KNOWLEDGE BASE is the information/facts/formulas/definitions/data/grammatical code which our student’s use to begin to comprehend the world.
  • A student’s UNDERSTANDING involves them melding their knowledge base with the concepts/paradigms/abstractions of the curriculum we deliver.
  • A student MAKES MEANING when they apply their knowledge and understanding to their choice-making/actions.

How are students assessed?

  • Individual Assessment: All students are assessed individually on their movement from point A to point B.
  • Authentic Assessment: Students are assessed on their writing, projects, interactive classroom discussion enacting 21st Century Skills, group work, tests, quizzes, note taking, and performance. Additionally, they have a quarterly meta-cognition discussion/writing.

All seniors must develop, present, and defend a student portfolio.
